I couldn’t love this brewery more. With an intentionally strong, feminine name - Matron - these industry professionals are making craft beers with locally sourced ingredients and prioritizing sustainability. Also - their beers are our favourite in the county. Down a quiet county lane in the town of Bloomfield, Matron’s brewery stands among the flower fields. You can sip your beverages on the patio or walk around the grounds. If you’re in the mood for food we can highly recommend the burger and chips.
Pat’s Favourite: Bobo. From Matron, “This ale is fruity and floral with a delicate minerality and a dry finish”
Al’s Favorite: Leisure. From Matron, “Expressing fresh floral, citrusy notes and ultimately thirst-quenching, Leisure Landbier finishes clean and crisp”

Gillingham is a family-owned and operated small-batch brewery. They offer seven rotating taps featuring unique brew styles inspired from all over the world - ranging from IPAs, Ales, Lagers, and Porters. When we visited the beers on offer were all fairly high alcohol percentage ~ 6% and up. The major draw for us is the beautiful beer garden paired with curated small plates from Bantam PEC. On Fridays and Sundays, they have special pop-ups with Tikka Chaat Indian Street Food and Rodney from White Horse Oyster Co.

Located on Main Street in Wellington, Midtown Brewing Co is the perfect place for lunch if you’re staying in Wellington and don’t feel like driving. You can walk around town, hit the beach, and stop in for lunch or dinner on the patio. They offer a full menu for dining in or takeaway, a bottleshop, and tastings. With six core beers, a mix of 3-5 seasonal beers there are plenty of options.

The setting for Slake Brewery is show-stopping. The winding drive up the hill prepares you for the panoramic views of the County from both the taproom and the patio spaces. When we visited there was plenty of space to enjoy the view and the easy-drinking beers. This is the place to catch a County Sunset. There were 8 beers on offer when we visited and we opted to try three different varieties. From Slake, “We currently produce clean, balanced, easy-drinking ales and lagers but we will be introducing mixed-fermentation beers from our cellar as our barrel program evolves over the coming months and years. All our beer is proudly brewed with 100% Ontario malt”.

A family-owned and operated Craft Brewery in the heart of Prince Edward County. Parsons is the family-friendly brewery option. If an easy Sunday afternoon out with the kids is in the cards, this would be our destination. With plenty of space to roam around and an unstructured playground, this is our recommendation to families visiting Prince Edward County. Parsons offers over 15 beers on tap and a full bottle shop to take away. They have a large daily food menu in addition to oysters on Saturdays.

The ultimate Prince Edward County playground for adults. You can enjoy your beer in the two-story tasting room, overlooking the brewhouse, or choose to sip outside on the patio while you snack on tasty food from the kitchen or regular food truck pop-ups. If you’re feeling adventurous you can even start up a game of beach volleyball on their outdoor court. During the pandemic, Prince Eddy’s was one of our favourite options for home delivery.
Pat’s Favourite: Chin Dropper. From Prince Eddy’s, A light-bodied blonde ale with a tropical aroma. A smooth, easy-drinking, refreshing ale. The ultimate beach beer. Nuff said.
Al’s Favorite: Cream Ale. From Prince Eddy’s, “Slight natural carbonation and toasty caramel create an approachable easy-drinking ale perfect for your year-round shenanigans.”

Lake on the Mountain Brewing Company started with two home-brewed beers, served exclusively at their resort (The Inn & The Miller House) in 2007. Since that time they’ve moved their brewery a bit further up the road and developed a larger manufacturing site, a bottle shop, taproom, and beer garden. We visited Lake on the Mountain Brewing Company on a stormy Wednesday afternoon, there was plenty of space to roam around the grounds and picnic tables set out in the beer garden.
Pat’s Favourite: Maggie’s Wheat
Al’s Favorite: Hook Line & Citra IPA

Located in the heart of Picton this is a great option for lunch or dinner when you’re visiting Picton Main Street. If you’ve found accommodation in the heart of the city this is a great no-driving option (not as common as you’d hope in The County). 555 Brewing Co offers 11 beers (some available only on tap, or only in cans) and wood-fired pizza. Their patio is street-facing and has a great atmosphere on a sunny evening.
